Ingredients:

Whole ragi is always the best for babies since it contains all the above qualities

If you don’t have that, you can always use the ragi powder is easily available in all stores

  1. Ragi / Finger millet – 1/2 a cup
  2. Salt/sugar – 1/2 tsp
  3. Milk/Buttermilk – 1 laddle
  4. Butter – 1 tbsp
  5. Asafoetida / Ajwain – 2 pinch
  6. Water – to grind
  7. Ghee – 1/2 tbsp

Preparation:

  • SOAK the whole ragi overnight for best results
  • The next day morning add it into the blender and blend it well
  • Add water gradually while grinding it not too much until all the milk comes out of it
  • Then strain it thoroughly into a hollow pan
  • Keep it on the stove in a high flame
  • Add some salt as required and some butter
  • If needed add some asafoetida or ajwain seeds/carom seeds it tastes good
  • And it helps the baby for an easy digestion
  • Add the milk and stir it vigorously until it forms a thick batter consistency
  • Finally add some ghee and finish it off
  • You can even add toppings such as raisins , cashews , dates or any dry fruits to it and this is purely for  2+ yr old kids
  • For adults you can add some more milk or water to it
  • If you have a sweet tooth you can add sugar to this recipe instead of salt
  • And if you need some tantalizing flavors you can add butter milk instead of milk which gives you a sour taste
  • But when you go with milk you have to pick sugar
  • And if you go with butter milk add salt that’s it
