Jack Fruit Seed SAMBHAR / Palakottai Sambhar

Preparation time: 10 mins       Cooking time: 10 min     Serves: 3

Ingredients:

  1. Sambhar molaga thool – 3 tbsp (Home made)
  2. Boiled & Mashed Toor dal – 1 1/2 cup
  3. Green chilly – 1/2
  4. Turmeric powder – 1/2 tspx
  5. Tamarind(soak in water) – lemon size
  6. Salt – to taste
  7. Asafoetida – 2 pinch
  8. Jack fruit seed/pala kottai – About 10 seeds

For Seasoning:

  1.  Mustard seeds – 1 tbsp
  2. Urad dal – 1/2 tsp
  3. Red chilly – 1/2
  4. Fenugreek seeds – 1/2 tsp
  5. Finely chopped onions – 1/2 tbsp
  6. Curry leaves – 1 sprig
  7. Asafoetida – 1 pinch

For Garnishing:

  1. Coriander leaves – as req
  2. Ghee – 1/2 tsp

Preparation:

  • Make sure to first soak the tamarind in water for about 10 min
  • And Boil the toor dal in the pressure cooker and mash it well and keep it ready

 

  • Keep some water in a pan and add some salt to it
  • Add the jack fruit seeds in and boil them
  • Add some sambhar molaga thool, asafoetida, turmeric powder and 1/2 green chilly
  • When the seeds are half way cooked add in the tamarind water
  •  Make sure to cook the seeds well should be mashed when pressed as shown
  • Then add in the boiled & mashed toor dal
  • Season it with seasoning ingredients
  • Stir it well check the salt and garnish it with coriander leaves and some ghee

Have it with rice, dosa and idly too tasty yummy different Sambhar is READY!!
