Channa Masala

Preparation time: 10 min      Cooking time: 10 min       Serves: 4

Ingredients:

  1. Bay leaf – 2
  2. Cinnamon stick – 1
  3. Clove – 2
  4. Star anise – 1
  5. Grated ginger & garlic – 1/2 tbsp
  6. Ginger garlic paste – 1/2 tsp
  7. Channa(chick pea) – 2 cups
  8. Onion (chopped) – 1
  9. Tomato – 2
  10. Green chilli(slit) – 1
  11. Lemon juice – 1 tbsp
  12. Curd – 2 tbsp
  13. Tamarind water – 1 tbsp
  14. Red chilly powder – 1 tbsp
  15. Coriander powder – 2 tbsp
  16. Cumin powder – 1/2 tbsp
  17. Channa masala powder – 2 tbsp
  18. salt to taste
  19. Water – 1/2 cup
  20. Oil for seasoning

For Garnishing:

  1. Finely chopped onions – 2 tbsp
  2. Coriander leaves – a few

TIP : While boiling the chick pea add salt,tamarind a small piece,a pinch of baking soda

Preparation:

  • Soak over night and boil the channa

  • Soak a bit of tamarind in warm water
  • Take a pan and smear some oil
  • Add the whole garam masala saute it
  • Add the grated ginger and garlic saute a bit
  • Then add the onions and green chillies
  • Put some salt so that the onions cook faster
  • Add the ginger garlic paste saute until the raw flavor is all gone
  • Add in the tomatoes saute well and cook until it is mashed
  • Add all the spice powders in and add 1/2 tsp of sugar to enhance the taste
  • Add the tamarind water into it
  • Add the beaten curd and mix well
  • The channa should be very well boiled but not too much as sown in pic
  • Add the boiled channa into it
  • For extra tangy touch add in some aam chur(raw mango) powder
  • Taste it and go with extra channa masala powder
  • Add little water if you want it to be a bit gravy style
  • And check the salt
  • Add in some lemon juice
  • Garnish with some raw onions and coriander leaves
  • READY!!! Our exciting aromatic tantalizing channa masala.
